Charles,
Chew Ming Kheng
Charles Chew is a
teaching fellow with the Science & Technology Education academic group of
the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University. He
graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1984 with a BSc (Hons –
2nd Upper) in Physics and obtained his Diploma-in-Education (with
credit) the year after. He is currently pursuing his Master of Education
Programme with the University of Western Australia which is due for completion before end 2002.
A PSC Teaching
Scholar who joined the education service in 1986, Charles Chew has taken on
various teaching appointments as a JC lecturer in VJC, Head of Science and
Vice-Principal in Dunman High School, Assistant Director in HQ MOE before his
current secondment to NIE as a Teaching Fellow.
His passion is in the
teaching of Science Education in general and Physics Education in particular. He
is the main author of 3 Physics Textbooks for "O" Levels and several
supplementary materials for both "A" and "O" levels which
are used widely in schools.
His
research interests are in the areas of curriculum development and innovation and
teacher education. He has just presented his refereed paper entitled
"Curriculum reforms in a changing education system:
A case of a physics curriculum package in Singapore" at the recent
Australian Association for Research in Education (AARE) Conference in Fremantle
in December 2001,
Australia.
